PROFESSIONAL TRIATHLETES ORGANISATION ANNOUNCES QUALIFYING SPOTS FOR PTO 2020 CHAMPIONSHIP AT SKODA TRIGAMES IN MANDELIEU, FRANCE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
10th October 2020
LONDON, ENGLAND: The Professional Triathletes Organisation today announced that it will award a spot for the PTO 2020 Championship at CHALLENGEDAYTONA® to the highest placed male and female professional at the SKODA Tri Games in Mandelieu, France on October 18th, 2020 who have not already qualified.
Charles Adamo, Executive Chairman of PTO commented, “This has been a very difficult year for our sport with most large international operators choosing to cancel professional racing. With very few racing opportunities, our PTO Professionals have been supporting local and regional events, and they recently suggested that maybe a final qualifying slot for the PTO 2020 Championship could be made available at one or two of the races our PTO Professionals are supporting. In response to this request, we are pleased to announce that the highest placed male and female professionals at the SKODA Tri Games, who have not already qualified, will earn a place at the PTO 2020 Championship, joining the world’s top triathletes in the biggest race of 2020. This gives some athletes who just missed out on qualifying one last chance to be on the starting line.” The PTO previously announced that professionals will also be able to earn a final spot for the PTO 2020 Championship at the Great Floridian Triathlon, in Clearwater Florida on October 24th.
Adamo added, “While in a normal year we would have preferred to have a series of races where those professionals ranked outside the top 40 in the PTO World Rankings would have the opportunity to earn a spot for the PTO 2020 Championship, everyone understands this is far from a normal year. In this unprecedented environment we needed move quickly and improvise to take advantage of windows that our PTO Professional have helped open. We are glad that at least one PTO supported race in Europe and one in North America will give some of the athletes ranked outside the top 40 in the PTO World Rankings the opportunity to race their way to the start line at the PTO 2020 Championship.”
PTO male athletes currently on the start list for the SKODA Tri Games include Ruedi Wild, Andi Boecherer, Rudy Von Berg and Peter Heemeryck as well as Arnaud Guilloux and Romain Guillaume. The women’s line-up includes current IRONMAN World Champion, Anne Haug, Emma Bilham, and Laura Siddall as well as French Long-Distance Champion, Jeanne Collonge.
The PTO 2020 Championship will be the culmination of a difficult year and will see the world’s top triathletes competing for a $1,000,000 prize purse. With the top 40 PTO World Ranked athletes and the PTO wildcard selections, the field for the PTO 2020 Championship will be the strongest ever assembled for our sport.
