PROFESSIONAL TRIATHLETES ORGANISATION PARTNERS WITH TRIATHLON SOUTH AFRICA TO SUPPORT THE SUN CITY ULTRA ON 2ND MAY

LONDON, ENGLAND: The Professional Triathletes Organisation today announced that it has partnered with Triathlon South Africa, the governing body of the sport in South Africa, and B-Active Sports to provide a professional prize purse along with media and marketing support for The Sun City Ultra Triathlon on 2nd May at the awe-inspiring Sun City resort in South Africa.

The Sun City Ultra is one of the highlights in the National Ultra Triathlon Series and part of the new African Championship series. The professional race is a non-drafting middle-distance race and has a 1.9km swim with a rolling start and a 90km cycle with a total elevation of 300m. The stunning 21km run route sees competitors running twice around the Gary Player and Lost City golf courses of the incredible Sun City resort.

The start list for the men’s race includes Kyle Buckingham, Matt Trautman and Mike Ferreria. The female line-up includes Annah Watkinson, Mariella Sawyer, Emma Pallant, Natia Van Heerden, Jade Nicole Roberts and Magda Nieuwoudt.

Charles Adamo, Executive Chairman of PTO commented, “2021 continues to prove challenging for our triathlon community with South Africa being particularly hard hit and most races being cancelled. If our sport stands for anything, it is the ability to overcome adversity, not succumb to it. The commitment of Triathlon South Africa, race directors like Damian Bradley of B-Active Sports and venues like Sun City demonstrates that united our sport will not be defeated. We hope we are an encouragement to others as they navigate some of the difficulties of the current environment. We are grateful for the opportunity to be a part of an event that puts on display the resilience of those committed to supporting our sport.”

Damian Bradley, Sun City Ultra race director stated, “After a long tough road, it is wonderful to be able to hold our events when so many races have been cancelled. It will be great to see professionals and amateur athletes unite for this fantastic race. We are very excited to welcome PTO Professionals to the race and thank the PTO for their support.”

Jan Sterk, Chairman of Triathlon South Africa said, “I welcome the PTO’s involvement in the Sun City Ultra Triathlon. We share the same values of supporting our athletes and the future of triathlon. It is wonderful to be able to hold a race in the current climate when so many races elsewhere have been cancelled.
