Biography

Miki Moerck Taagholt

Dane Miki Moerck Taagholt has worked his way through the distances from Sprint to 70.3, establishing himself along the way as one of the premier Danish triathletes.

‘Taaget’ as he is nicknamed (which translates to ‘train’ in English) is a regular competitor on the ETU and ITU circuits and has more recently begun appearing at the start line of IRONMAN 70.3 events.

A bronze medallist at the Danish Junior Triathlon National Championships in 2013, Miki had to wait until 2017 to earn his first professional podium, a third place at the Herning ETU Challenge Middle Distance European Championships.

It was clear by 2018 that he excelled at the endurance of a middle-distance triathlon, finishing second at the 2018 Ibiza Middle Distance European Championships before earning another podium at the Wenzhou ITU Multisport World Cup Long Distance event.

In 2019, ‘Taaget’ debuted on the IRONMAN 70.3 circuit at Oceanside, his favourite race, finishing eighth. Miki raced three more events during the season and finished third at both Indian Wells – La Quinta and Gdynia.

Miki says his biggest rival is fellow Danish triathlete ‘Cutie’ Daniel Bækkegård, and he trains with several Danish pros in a big training group in Odense, consisting of both short- and long-distance men and women. “A great training environment,” he says.

His most painful race experience to date, other than numerous big crashes, was at Elsinore 70.3 in 2019. Miki went flying out of T1, leaving everyone behind before he hit a wall at the 70km point. His legs cramped up and he says he “made a fool of himself” on home soil.

Outside of triathlon ‘Taaget’ has a rabbit called Egon, and says his weirdest quirk is that he loves to sign when he’s on his bike.
