2017 USA Triathlon Elite Rookie of the Year Alissa Doehla enjoyed the reward of $15,000 in prize money after finishing 11th at the PTO 2020 Championship at CHALLENGEDAYTONA®

Heading into the race at the famous Daytona International Speedway®, the American’s prowess over the middle-distance certainly made her a candidate for success.

A seven-time IRONMAN 70.3 podium finisher, Doehla had her eyes on the mammoth prize pool for the event – the largest ever put together for a professional triathlon.

Doehla produced a swim split of 26:10 as she came out of the water on the periphery of the top 20. “I think I was most proud of my swim, for getting out hard and in the fray, finding fast feet, and then hanging on for dear life,” she posted online after the race.

She then produced a solid bike split of 1:58:35 to close in on the top 10. Unfortunately, a “rookie mistake” saw her, in her own words, “eat pavement” going into T2.

The American gained further places on the run during her 1:07:33 – the fourth fastest run in the entire field – showcasing elite pacing throughout the race to ensure she finished in the prize money.

“11th place and 2nd American in a star-studded field at the PTO and CHALLENGEDAYTONA® Championships was beyond my expectations,” Doehla commented on her Instagram page.
