The 29-year-old produced a stunning swim of 22:25 – the fastest in the world-class field – to lead into the first transition.
Strong displays on the bike, and particularly the run, kept the 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medallist in contention.
Norway’s Gustav Iden claimed victory in 3:05:06 in a tight race that saw the top 12 covered by under three minutes, a stark contrast the women’s race that was won by Paula Findlay by over two and half minutes.
Schoeman was in contention throughout, holding position in the top 10 throughout before eventually finishing in a very respectable seventh place.
After the race, Henri posted on social media: “It was amazing to have been part of such a historic event, hosted by the Professional Triathletes Organisation.”
“I really enjoyed the challenge of racing at the PTO 2020 Championship at CHALLENGEDAYTONA®, the in such a quality field, happy with the way I executed by race and I’m still learning to be better.”
