The 2023 PTO Asian Open to be held in the stunning city-state of Singapore is the first-ever PTO Tour event in Asia. Together with the awe-inspiring Marina Bay event venue, the unprecedented swim location, and spectacular city circuit course, this will be a one of a kind event not to be missed.
The PTO Asian Open is unlike any other multi-sport event. In August 2023 you’ll have the chance to race into triathlon history in one of the world’s top 10 cities. Overview
The city venue is an iconic location adorned with the most glitzy skyscrapers and unique architectural buildings in the world.
You’ll race on the same streets as the professional triathletes, the only difference is experience amateur athletes will have different length laps to provide an optimal mass-participation experience.
Spectators will be blessed with the opportunity to cheer their athlete multiple times each leg, while enjoying the festival activities and food and beverages. Bring the whole family and friends for an unforgettable weekend in a truly stunning location.

The Swim
You’ll make history by being part of the first-ever triathlon swim in Marina Bay, which boasts one of the world’s most iconic and stunning city views. The freshwater 2km swim will set off in a rolling start format from the start pontoon and large marker buoys will guide you around the point-to-point swim. With a usual water temperature of 28°C it’s almost certainly going to be a non-wetsuit swim.
Athletes must be competent swimmers to participate in this event. During registration you will be asked to confirm that you have completed at least three (3) open water swims. You must also submit proof that you have completed an open water swim of distance of 1500m or greater since 1 June 2022 at a pace of 2min30sec per 100m or faster, (ie a time of 37min30sec for 1500m or 47min 30sec for 1900m).
This proof must be uploaded to your registration before 11:59 SST (GMT +8) on Friday 28 July 2023. Valid proof includes finisher certificate or screenshot of a race result showing event date, athlete name, swim distance and swim time.
Athletes who do not have suitable proof may join these swim trials organised by MetaSport in Singapore:

Cut-off
The experienced age-group triathlon is before the professional race, which means there will be cut-off times imposed on each leg to ensure we’re ready to roll for the cameras at 3pm. Please take note of these cut-off timings prior to registering for the race.
Swim cut-off: Completing the first 200m within 5 minutes, completing 2km within 55 minutes after your swim wave start.
The Bike
The bike course takes place on an 18km long, closed city circuit route starting and finishing at Marina Bay. The fast course is mainly flat and on smooth tarmac with low rolling resistance. What sets this course apart from any other is the location – smack in the middle of the city with stunning views of Marina Bay and the city skyline. The total elevation of the bike course is approximately 700m. Each lap has an aid station giving athletes five opportunities to top up on energy and hydration.

Bike cut-off: 4 hours 30 minutes after your swim wave start
The Run
The four-lap run is on a flat paved surface and it provides the most scenic view from within the heart of Singapore’s iconic skyline. During each 4.5km lap, runners will be able to top up with fuel and hydration at two aid stations per lap. At the end of lap four you’ll take the finish chute for a grandstand finish that is fit for the world’s best endurance athletes!

Getting to Singapore
Singapore is a major transportation hub in Southeast Asia. The city-state’s main airport, Changi Airport, is one of the most well-connected airports in the world, with flights from and to destinations all over the globe.
When you arrive at Changi Airport, you’ll have a variety of transportation options to get into the city. One of the most popular is the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) train, which operates on the East-West and Changi Airport lines. The MRT station at Changi Airport is located at Terminals 2 and 3, and provides easy access to the city centre, as well as connections to other parts of Singapore.
You can also get to the city centre by ride-hailing services (such as Grab or Uber), taxis (which are readily available in Singapore and can be booked in advance or hailed from the airport taxi rank) and shuttle bus.

Registration will close once quotas are full.
What is the age limit?
Participants must be 18 years old and above as of 31 December 2023.
Do I have to qualify to race this event?
Yes. A certain swim proficiency is required. Athletes must provide prior race evidence that they can swim 2km at a pace of 2:30 mins/100m or quicker and declare that they have completed three open water swim events previously.
I am unable to race. Can I transfer my entry?

I’d prefer not to disclose my gender, is that OK?
Sure. In this instance your result will be part of the overall ranking, and not appear in either the men’s or women’s results.

When and how will I receive my race pack?

Will there be a bike mechanic service available on-site?
Yes, there will be mechanics available on race day for last minute issues. However, please ensure your bike is in good working condition prior to attending the race.

Since you didn’t complete the swim you will receive a DNF as your official race result. However, you will be able to continue with the cycle and run legs of the race. You will be allowed to start once race officials give you the green light.Are there race prizes?

How many legs can a single team member complete in the PTO100 Corporate Relay?
A single team member can complete three legs, but they cannot be consecutive. You must “tag” a team member after each leg.

What level of swim ability do I require, and how do I prove it?

What sort of proof will you accept?

Can I use my IRONMAN or IRONMAN 70.3 race result as proof?
Yes you can. Qualifying times are:
- 1.9km in 47 min 30 sec or faster
- 3.8km in 1 hour 35 mins or faster
I did a race but the swim distance is less than 1500m, can I submit it as proof?
No, the race needs to be 1500m or longer to be used for swim validation.
Does a pool swim qualify?
No, it has to be an open water swim.
Does it have to be a triathlon race?
No. Any race (local or international) that includes an open water swim of 1500m or more is allowed.
Can I submit my Garmin/Strava swim distance as proof?
No, you are required to submit an official race certificate or result screenshot taken from an event website.
Is there a swim trial happening that I can join to validate my swimming ability?
Yes, athletes who do not have suitable proof may join these swim trials organised by MetaSport.

How long do I have to submit my proof of swimming competency?
You’ll need to provide your proof of swimming competency by 28 July at 11:59pm SST or you will automatically be transferred to the duathlon event.
How Do I Submit my swim Proof?
During registration, you’ll be invited to upload your proof of swim ability.
If you choose not to submit your proof of swim ability during initial registration, you can do so at any time by returning to your Race Dashboard.
You can access your Race Dashboard through the link in your confirmation email or by logging in to your race registration here using your email address and booking reference (also in your confirmation email).
Once you are on your Race Dashboard page, you can click on the ‘Update Swimming Competency Proof’ button at the bottom of the page to be redirected to the swimming proof form.
My name on the certificate is different from the name used for PTO registration.
Please ensure the name is the same for your race entry and swim proof. If they are different please email ([email protected]) together with the certificate and race registration that shows the same DOB/email/phone number.
