Milwaukee, US: Britain’s Kat Matthews warmed up for Saturday’s PTO US Open women’s race by throwing the ceremonial pitch for the Milwaukee Brewers at their Major League Baseball (MLB) home game on Thursday night (3 August) at the team’s American Family Field stadium against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The PTO World #14 – and one of the pre-race favourites for the PTO Tour race in Milwaukee – will hope it is a good omen for her, as the Brewers went on to trounce the Pittsburgh Pirates 14-1 to stay top of the MLB’s National League.
“It was a really cool experience,” said Matthews, who delivered the pitch expertly into the waiting gloves of the Brewers’ backstop. “There was a big adrenaline rush, especially walking onto the field and up to the mound where I threw the pitch from.”
