Professional Triathletes Organisation And World Triathlon Give Age-Groupers The Chance To Compete For T100 World Championship Glory

London, UK: The Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) and World Triathlon have today announced the qualification system that will enable Age-Group athletes to compete in their own age based categories of the T100 Triathlon World Championships.

Amateur athletes across standard triathlon age brackets will be able to race for the glory of being crowned a T100 Age Group World Champion when the T100 Triathlon World Championships take place in Qatar from 12-13 December, 2025.

In the 2025 Qatar T100 Age Group World Championships, amateur athletes can qualify by:

  1. Finishing in a top 10 position within the specific Age-Group and gender on a T100 distance mass participation race in any T100 Triathlon World Tour events that take place prior to, but in the same calendar year as, the 2025 Qatar T100 Age-Group World Championship Final; or
  2. An internal selection process established by athletes’ respective National Federations (consistent with all other World Triathlon Age-Group selection processes).

The news follows the announcement in January that the PTO and World Triathlon were developing the concept.

“One of the unique aspects of T100 is the opportunity for professionals and Age-Groupers to compete on the same courses, in the same iconic cities, and on the same weekends,” said PTO CEO Sam Renouf. ‘The T100 is the F1 of long distance triathlon – with the greatest athletes competing consistently in a season-long competition in iconic locations. However, unlike in F1 and other pro sports, triathlon provides the opportunity for amateurs to challenge themselves with the same experience as the top professionals in the world.”

“As part of our partnership with World Triathlon, it was always the strategy to give aspiring Age-Groupers and amateur athletes the chance to compete for their T100 World Championship glory alongside the professionals. As such, if you place in the top 10 of a T100 event over the 100km distance during 2025, or achieve selection through your National Federation, you will have the chance to become an Age-Group World Champion.”

“Today marks a significant milestone in our mission to elevate the sport of triathlon for all athletes. The collaboration between World Triathlon and the PTO represents a unified commitment to not only professional athletes but also to our Age-Group competitors. By offering this new qualification pathway for the T100 World Championships, we are fostering an inclusive environment where every Age-Grouper can strive for their personal best and compete on the world stage. Together, we aim to deliver exceptional events and greater opportunities for all to experience the thrill of competition,” said World Triathlon President Elect Antonio F. Arimany.

Notes To Editors:

Further details on amateur qualification for the amateur T100 Triathlon World Championship Finals are included within the World Triathlon Rules:

  • Eligible age-groups are: 18-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70-74; 75-79; 80+;
  • Start list will be created 60 days before the first competition day;
  • National Federations will have a baseline quota of twenty (20) athletes;
  • Host National Federation will have a baseline quota of twenty-five (25) athletes;
  • Both National Federation and Host National Federation quotas will be increased above the baseline when athletes representing the NF achieve qualification according to the Rules. The increase in quota will correspond to the cumulative total number of top 10 finish positions achieved by different athletes within the same Age-Group and gender across all T100 Triathlon World Tour events of the calendar year. These additional start places may only be assigned to the athletes who achieved these top 10 finish positions;
  • All athletes (those selected in the internal selection process and those gaining a start place in the T100 Triathlon World Tour events) must comply with the National Federation requirements to be entered in the T100 Age-Group World Championships.
  • World Triathlon Technical Delegate may reduce the National Federation and Host National Federation quota if the technical conditions require;
  • National Federations (including Host National Federation) may request a further  extension of quotas to the Technical Delegate.
  • Places are only available to athletes who finish in the Top 10 in their Age-Group. There will be no roll downs should athletes not claim their place.
  • If qualifying through a T100 result, the athlete may defer their entry to 2026 if they qualify at any event after 10th August 2025.
  • If qualifying through a T100 result, athletes must accept, decline or defer within 30 days of their result.
