Doha, Qatar: The Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) and Visit Qatar have announced that registrations for the open category of the Qatar T100 Triathlon World Championship Final, taking place on 12-13 December, went on general sale last week and have already sold close to 1,000 places.
The 100km triathlon (2km swim, 80km bike, 18km run) went on sale for amateur participants on Wednesday 9 April and immediately saw strong demand in what will be the country’s biggest triathlon and is already on track to be one of the largest in the GCC.
“This is a fantastic start,” said PTO CEO Sam Renouf. ‘What is especially encouraging is the balance of local sign ups versus those coming from outside of Qatar, which currently represents more than half. This is both a strong testament to the appeal of the new T100 series and the 100km distance to inspire local participation as well as the reputation of Qatar as a premier sports tourism destination.”
The PTO announced a five-year partnership deal with Visit Qatar in January this year, sharing plans to make the Gulf state the new climax of the T100 Triathlon World Tour. With the swim taking place off the Arabian Peninsula and then the bike and run legs winding around the cities of Doha and Lusail – taking in many of the famous local landmarks, including the Lusail Stadium which staged the 2022 FIFA World Cup Final and has now become a community hub for local schools, shops and other sporting facilities.
Mr. Jassim Mahmoud, PR and Communications Director at Visit Qatar said: “We are pleased to see such a strong response to the registrations for the Qatar T100 Triathlon World Championship Final. This level of interest underscores the growing appetite for sports participation in Qatar and highlights the country’s appeal as a global destination for athletes of all levels. We invite everyone from enthusiasts to challenge seekers to seize this unique opportunity and register for this global sporting event, which is becoming part of an exceptional experience that blends passion, fitness, and the spirit of competition.”
Qatar’s global positioning as a hub for international sporting excellence continues to grow, and events such as the visit of the 2025 T100 Triathlon World Tour contribute to its sporting legacy. By hosting globally recognised events such as the Formula 1 Qatar Grand Prix, and the AFC Asian Cup, Qatar has demonstrated its ability to captivate sport audiences and enthusiasts from around the world.

The PTO and World Triathlon also confirmed last week the new qualification system that will enable Age-Group athletes to compete in their own age based categories of the T100 Triathlon World Championships, which will give aspiring amateurs the chance to compete for their own T100 glory.
The 2025 T100 Triathlon World Tour got under way in Singapore last weekend (5-6 April) when Great Britain’s Kate Waugh and New Zealand’s Hayden Wilde produced two world class performances to win in the heat and humidity of the Lion City and take the lead in the T100 Race To Qatar Rankings. Waugh described her win as ‘the biggest victory of her career’, while Wilde was buzzing to get ‘to take the win and get his season off to a really good high’.
The next leg of the T100 Tour will be in San Francisco on 31 May, when the world top 20 female and top 20 male triathletes will take on the legendary Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon – a bucket list race for both professionals and amateurs worldwide.
