Jackie Hering showcases her fierce desire to compete every time she sets foot on a triathlon start line.
The perfect example of that competitive spirit came when she made her return to the sport after the birth of her second child in 2018.
She didn’t just come back, she roared back by winning three IRONMAN 70.3 titles in 2019 as well as becoming US Snowshoe Racing National Champion.
Her victories at Traverse City, Steelhead and Campeche were a testament to her desire to return to elite levels, and a reminder of her tremendous ability.
Jackie appears to be as good as ever as we head into the 2021 season, with the promise of more terrific performances to come.
The 36-year-old American star has always been renowned as a strong runner, and she did that reputation no harm with her performance in the PTO 2020 Championship at CHALLENGEDAYTONA®.
Jackie finished the swim in the bottom half of the star-studded field in Florida, leaving her with plenty of work to do.
But a strong display ‘on land’ saw her haul herself towards the frontrunners, climbing as high as 10th on the opening laps of the run following an excellent bike split.
A five-minute penalty midway through the run however saw Jackie slip back slightly, but she finished strongly to cross the line in 19th position.
“The dust has settled and I am so dang thankful for the opportunity to race this year @professionaltriathletesorg champs @challengedaytona,” she wrote on social media.
“I love racing and already can’t wait to do it again.”
Jackie is now #20 in the PTO World Rankings, and she will be eager to improve on that position in 2021.
